Project Highlights: Two-Story Deck Rebuild With Trex Enhance & Trex Select Railings
Location: Portland, Oregon
Type: Teardown & Reconstruction

When an older wooden deck begins to show its age, replacing it with a modern composite system is one of the best ways to improve safety, appearance, and long-term value. For this project, Grand Decks removed the existing wood structure and replaced it with a brand-new two-story deck designed to be stronger, more durable, and easier to maintain. The result is a clean, modern outdoor space that connects multiple areas of the backyard while providing a safe and comfortable place to relax and entertain.
Full Removal and Structural Rebuild
The project began with the complete removal of the original wooden deck. This allowed our team to inspect the foundation area and rebuild the structure from the ground up using updated framing methods and exterior-rated fasteners. A solid framing system is critical for two-story decks, and this rebuild ensured proper load support, stability, and long-term safety. By starting fresh, the new deck was able to meet today’s building standards and provide a strong base for premium composite materials.

Trex Enhance Composite Decking in Toasted Sand
The new deck surface was built using Trex Enhance composite decking in the warm and inviting Toasted Sand color. This material offers the natural look of wood with far greater resistance to moisture, fading, and wear. Trex Enhance is known for its durability and low maintenance, making it an excellent choice for elevated decks that are exposed to weather year-round. The soft, neutral tone of Toasted Sand blends beautifully with the home and surrounding landscape.

Trex Select Railings With Aluminum Balusters
To complete the look and ensure safety on both levels of the deck, Trex Select composite railings were installed with round aluminum balusters. This railing system provides a classic appearance while offering modern strength and weather resistance. The composite rail frames resist cracking and fading, while the aluminum balusters add rigidity and a clean, open feel. Together, they create a railing system that is both stylish and built to last.

Cocktail Top for Comfort and Entertaining
A cocktail top was added along the railing to provide extra functionality. This feature gives homeowners a convenient ledge for drinks, plates, or casual seating, making the deck more enjoyable for gatherings and everyday use. It also adds visual depth and a polished finish to the railing system.
Two-Story Layout With Stair Access
One of the standout features of this project is the two-story design with connecting stairs. The staircase leads from the main deck down to another section of the backyard, creating a smooth transition between outdoor spaces. This design improves flow and usability, making it easier to move between levels while maximizing the home’s outdoor living area.

A Strong, Low-Maintenance Outdoor Upgrade
With new framing, Trex Enhance decking, and Trex Select railings, this two-story deck was rebuilt to provide long-term durability, safety, and style. The finished structure delivers a modern look, reduced maintenance, and a layout that makes the most of the homeowner’s yard. It’s a perfect example of how thoughtful design and high-quality materials can turn an aging deck into a beautiful, lasting outdoor retreat.
